Nina Blouse Pattern Blog Tour - Coffee & Thread Patterns

I am so excited to be a part of the Coffee & Thread Blog Tour for the Nina Blouse Pattern. I know I've already shared a few pictures of the two versions I made during the pattern testing, but today I'm going to share more details about the two versions, what I love about this pattern and a hack for ties in the smaller sizes.

I had so much fun testing this pattern with Olga and the other ladies. This was the first time I have sewn any Coffee & Thread patterns, but when I saw the call for this top, I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous shape and the cute little neck ties! Even though my little one isn't in school right now, it just seemed like such a sweet top for wearing to church or school.

The Nina Blouse pattern features:

  • Two Sleeve Options: Long or Cap Sleeves (regular or scallop)
  • Plain Collar or Scallop Collar
  • Decorative pin tucks at the shoulders
  • Optional Bows/Ties for sizes 4 and up
The pattern is designed for girls sizes 12 months to 12 years.

I made two versions during testing and I will definitely make both again. Since we are approaching Spring/Summer I will make another cap sleeve soon, but the long sleeve version is going to be a great option for those of you heading into Fall right now.

Version 1: Size 2 - Scallop Cap Sleeves with Scallop Collar

I love the loose fit. It's perfect for playing around in.

This was my first time doing pintucks - I struggled a bit, but they are such a sweet detail!

The shape of this top is gorgeous! It looks great in fabrics like this chambray or linen!

Version 2: Size 2 Long Sleeves with Scallop Collar and Ties

My long sleeve version with my hack for ties to go with the size 2 top.

This top almost makes me want it to stay cool a little longer!

I decided to go with snaps on both versions because they are easier to put on and easier to manage on a toddler who won't stand still while you try to get her ready for the day. I use these Babyville Snaps with these pliers.

So, after making my first one, I really wanted to make a version with ties. Technically, for safety issues, the ties/bows are only designed for sizes 4 and up. I decided to make a tie for my size 2 because I love the look and knew that I'd be watching her while she was wearing them and could take them off when we get in the car or she napped. So, if you're going to make them for your littles, please use discretion. Here's how I used the pattern pieces to make them in a smaller size:

1. I cut out the size 4 pattern pieces for the bows and the stand.

2. I shortened the bow pieces and the stand piece by 5/8 of an inch.

3. Then I just proceeded to assemble it as the pattern instructs.

SUPER EASY! I've never done a pattern hack before this, so even though it was simple, I was glad I tried it. I think next time, I may only shorten the stand and use the size 4 bow piece as it is in order to get a better length.
